Antigenics, Inc. Gets FDA Approval For Orphan Drug Designation To Oncophage For Treatment Of Glioma

Antigenics, Inc. announced that Oncophage (vitespen) has been granted orphan drug status for the treatment of glioma (brain cancer) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

FDA Grants Orphan Drug Designation to Oncophage for the Treatment of Glioma
“Glioma is such an aggressive and challenging cancer that when patients are diagnosed with recurrence of this life threatening disease, they rarely live beyond six months,” said Andrew T. Parsa, MD, PhD, associate professor in the department of neurological surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and lead investigator of a Phase 2 trial evaluating Oncophage in glioma. “Given the poor survival rates, the medical community needs new treatment options, and I am hopeful of the potential for Oncophage to significantly improve clinical outcomes in this patient population.”

About Brain Tumors

Glioma is the most common type of brain tumor and is currently a fatal disease impairing areas such as thinking, personality and movement. The National Cancer Institute estimates that about 19,000 cases are diagnosed every year in the United States and, according to historical estimates, the median survival of patients with previously treated glioma is typically three to six months.

The potential market for this company’s drug is astronomical. I myself know a few people who have died from brain tumours and related head traumas, so any new medicine will be a huge hit. Hold onto this one for a few months and you will be rewarded. Not to mention they have little, to no competition as there are very few treatments for this condition!

    Hi Michael,
    Two questions…
    1) What price do you suggest buying in at for AGEN? I have seen that this is up 16.5% already. Is it too late?
    2) MESA is down 15% to 0.19. Do you suggest buying in or is it off your list now?
    Thanks,
    Michael.

    Hello,

    1) AGEN will be a long-term hold for me. I will sell if it hits around 1 dollar. I see great potential in this new drug.

    2) MESA I sold for a 20% profit for now, if it again reaches low levels I will buy back in.

What would you consider a good low level to get back in on MESA?
It closed at 0.17. Do you think it will go a bit lower with all the airlines taking a bit of a hit with this Swine Flu worry on the markets?

  4. Michael Vlaicu said:

With the Swine flu officially becoming a pandemic, I would say that it will drop quite a bit more. I see 0.13ish as a perfect entry point.

For those of you who are already invested, need not worry because once the situation is resolved — this stock will be >.50 easily.

    Hello Wayne,

I have not been following this stock for quite some time as I have concentrated on ACUS, HEB, CTIC and ABIO. It would be unwise for me to misguide you, however if they have any upcoming relative news, please feel free to contact me or perhaps submit an article for review which will be deemed 100% your work and complete credit.

Thanks for alerting me to this one. I did a bunch of research into this one after reading your review and went in long at .71. This has been a great performer.

    Thanks again.
